I have never found it easy to write about myself and recently as I was reading through this section with a friend I realized that I hadn't looked at this for well over a year. I read through it and heard the voice of my younger self but felt the same heart and passion that I still share today. As I read through the following with this friend, I immediately went to start 'updating' this section - but then I stopped. No, no updates are needed. This not only was my story when I wrote it well over a year ago - this is still my story today. My passion is the same and for some reason I was meant to read this with that friend that day and when I did something in me was reignited for what I do, the 'job' that I love. The job that no longer feels like a job and for that I am extremely lucky. So, let's get on to my story.
Back in 2009 when I was working a Monday through Friday job in the medical field I never in my wildest dreams would have thought that today, as I enter into my 10th year in business, I would be writing the 'Our Story' page for my wedding & event planning business. On 12.1.09, my birthday, I gave my notice at that 9-5 job I was working and took the scariest, most rewarding step of my life- I followed my passion and started my own business . It was not easy, I really had no idea what I was doing but I just felt like I was doing the right thing. Sure, I love all the pretty things that come with weddings & events but truthfully what my passion is- my deep down, in my gut passion- is the planning, the logistics and the details of the day I am putting together. I love the timelines, working out the logistics and watching a perfect wedding or event come to life. I love it, I live for it and I have sacrificed a lot to be where I am today. Owning my own business has been all and nothing that I expected it to be. I have made great sacrifices but also have created amazing opportunities for myself. Detailed Engagements has taken me to places I never would have dreamt and it has led to the greatest frienships and relationships that I may not otherwise have had. And as I look back, I realized that these friendships & relationships are the biggest gift my business has given me. From my collegues to my former clients - these are all people I am so fortunate to have in my life now as life long friends.
And this, this is why I do what I do. Of course I love all the glamour and beauty that come with a wedding or an event but I love what I just described more. That is why since 2010 I have put my heart and soul into bringing to life the weddings & events my clients dream of. Along the way I have had my ups and downs just like any other small business owner but the ups and the highlights truly outweigh anything that the downs have taught me. From the heartfelt thank you cards from a client after their event to a Christmas card from a couple who got married 4 years ago showing their 2 childen, I know that Detailed Engagements is more than just a 'wedding planning business'. Detailed Engagements and my clients are my heart.
Yes, I get to attend some of the best weddings & events on a weekly basis during my busy season but the joy that I feel from them is not necessarily found in the pretty flowers, gorgeous dresses or sparkly things. The joy I have found and continue to find at each and every one of my weddings & events come from the happiness on my clients face. The pure bliss I see in a newly married couples's eyes. The love on a mother & father's face as their son or daughter says I Do. The smiles draped across a guests face while they watch a first dance. Those are the moments that bring joy to me. Those are the moments that define me. For those are the moments when I know I have done my job. I have created a stress free, relaxed day for my clients and I am happy.

3 things I want you to know about me:
- I love my Newburyport weddings but the weddings that take me on the road have a special place in my heart. This year is shaping up to be just like the last 9 seasons with lots of Newburyport weddings right in my back yard but also has me taking the show back on the road once again! We have New Hampshire wedding, Maine weddings, Massachusetts weddings and Rhode Island Weddings! Have suitcase - will travel and I love it!
- At any time at least 50% of our clients are living outside of New England and are coming here to get married! We have worked who live in Germany, California, Synapoore, Washington, DC, South Carolina and New York City! All coming here to get married in New England. How cool is that?!
- In 2014, I founded the Newburyport Young People with a Purpose group. This is a group of young people who all have the same goal in mind- to give back. We do events every 6-8 weeks and each one helps to raise awareness and funds for a local charity. This is something that is very important to me and has been such a great pleasure to watch take off. When I set out on this journey with Detailed Engagements it was not about the awards, recognition or accolades- it was just about following my passion. Along the way my passion for what I do and the hard work I have put in have been recognized in more ways than I could have ever imagined.
